What Is Crisis Support

Behind the scenes at Lifeline Macarthur and Western Sydney we all have different roles. We all do our bit but the real heroes are our Crisis Supporters. This year, we aim to highlight the impact and achievements of our Crisis Supporters.

The Extraordinary Impact of Crisis Supporters

LLMWS Crisis Support Snapshot (May 2024 – May 2025)

Over the past year, Crisis Supporters have continued to make an extraordinary impact across our service. Since May 2024, they have:

  • Answered 73,197 calls
  • Created 4,575 safety plans in response to suicidality. Safety issues addressed by Lifeline Australia include suicide, self-harm, domestic violence, child abuse, substance abuse, mental health crises, and other emergencies that pose a risk to individual or community well-being. Multiple safety issues may be discussed within a single call.
  • Offered 1,611 calls that were abandoned by the Help Seeker before they could be answered by a telephone crisis supporter.

These figures speak volumes about the compassion, consistency, and dedication that each of our Crisis Supporters brings to every shift.

A Story That Shines

One volunteer’s journey this year has especially stood out.

Volunteer X – name not included a Crisis Supporter at Parramatta, exemplifies quiet strength and resilience. After not progressing past Stage 2 of CSWT training in 2023, he didn’t give up. Instead, he chose to start over completing the full training process a second time with determination and humility. He recently passed his final Stage 3 assessment with grace and professionalism.

What makes his dedication even more inspiring is what he’s been carrying personally. While supporting others through crisis, he has also been caring for his wife, who is currently battling cancer and facing significant health challenges.

Despite this, he continues to show up—consistently, wholeheartedly, and always with a smile. His resilience, optimism, and quiet courage are nothing short of extraordinary.

We want to take a moment to acknowledge and honour the strength, heart, and commitment he brings. His story is a reminder of the powerful humanity behind the role of every volunteer.
